Master of Arts in Digital Arts and Sciences (DAS)
Discipline-Specific Admission requirements (Items 1 – 4) and
College and University Admission requirements (Items 5-9)
The absolute FINAL Deadline for receipt of all application materials for the SPRING 2010 admission to the MA in DAS is 5PM EST on Friday OCTOBER 23, 2009. We strongly urge all prospective candidates to have all their materials turned as far in advance of this absolute deadline as possible.
All students wishing to be considered for admission to the MA in DAS must provide:
1. An organized portfolio of media-related support material (i.e. samples of design, programming, video, web, writing, etc.) that demonstrates both prior interest and/or achievement in New Media/Digital Arts & Sciences. The portfolio (and all other admissions documents submitted) will be carefully reviewed by the Digital Worlds (DW) faculty. This support material should include a one-page summary or index of work submitted, listing the contributions of the applicant and credits for all contributors/collaborators. Work may be submitted on any modern media format (i.e. photographic slide, audio CD, LP, CD-ROM, DVD, in print form, VHS or DV videocassette, or on the web). No materials will be returned unless specific arrangements are made by the applicant.
2. A Statement of Purpose describing why you are interested in this degree and what you career goals are. This 1-2 page statement should include your:- Proven ability to take risks and think "outside of the box"
- Examples of your capabilities as a problem solver
- Ability to provide your own laptop for work in the program
- Ability and intent to complete a one-year intensive MA program in the Digital Arts & Sciences.
3. Your Resume – information about your work experiences, academic background and achievements, awards, special honors and/or projects.
4. A Statement of Support indicating if you intend to cover the costs of the degree with your own resources (this would include a student loan or other identified funding) or if you would be interested in being considered for a research or teaching assistant position while you are working in the program. Students admitted to the program that have the skill-sets needed to substantively contribute to the various research and production projects of the Digital Worlds Institute may be considered for part-time employment with Digital Worlds during the period of the degree. Due to the intensive nature of the MA in DAS degree, outside employment of more than 20 hours per week is discouraged, but would not effect initial consideration for entrance into the program.

5. Apply Online
The University of Florida online application includes a section for you to write a statement of purpose (you may use the same statement as above). The online application has been enhanced to allow you to electronically request letters of recommendation that will become part of the application. A secure email link will be sent to each person; however, you may want to alert your recommenders to check SPAM boxes, or add ufl.edu to their “safe” email list to be sure this is not overlooked. More information and directions are provided as you complete the online application. The $30 application fee may be paid online when you apply.
6. GRE – Graduate Record Examination 'General Test' is REQUIRED for admission: Scores are viewed individually for each section of the General Test, and the GRE exam is viewed in relation to your completed and entire graduate admission application: GPA, letters of recommendation, portfolio and statement of purpose.
7. Email gradadmissions@arts.ufl.edu and let us know you have applied on-line. We will access your online application so you do NOT need to send another copy.
8. Submit official transcripts Request official transcripts from all institutions attended and have sent to Graduate Admissions & Academic Programs, at the office address listed below. The University of Florida requires a minimum grade point average of B (3.0) for all upper-division undergraduate work - usually the last two years of the undergraduate program. However, if the GPA is below a 3.0, conditional admission may be granted in those rare cases where the GPA in the student's major coursework is above a 3.0, or work experience in the field and letters of recommendation warrant an exception to the policy.
9. Letters of recommendation that are not completed as part of the online application may be printed and mailed directly to the address below. If you mail forms to recommenders, please include an addressed reply envelope with your requests for letters of recommendation or advise your recommenders to send letters to:
