Dancing Beyond Boundaries
"Dancing Beyond Boundaries" was an unprecedented distance collaboration between artists, engineers, computer scientists and video producers which premiered at the SuperComputing Global conference in Denver. The choreographer, dancers, animation artists, musicians, computer scientists, engineers and producers were all in different cities in North and South America as the piece was created, rehearsed and performed over the 4 days of the conference.
Dream Machine: The History of the University of Florida
As a tribute to the 150-year legacy of the University of Florida, come experience the wide-screen presentation of the "Dream Machine" in the Digital Worlds Institute's REVE at the newly renovated Norman Gym CAVE environment. NAVE is an acronym for Non-expensive Automatic Virtual Environment.
Drumma
DRUMMA is a simultaneous and synchronous performance event with musicians and engineers located at four North American Universities ranging from Alaska to Florida. ICT is made possible by a new suite of software tools invented by Digital Worlds called the NetroNome™, which comprises the musical sub-system of the NOME system (NetroNome Online Media Experience™).
Grand Guard
A tribute to the UF graduates of the post W.W.II era, Digital Worlds (DW) and students in the Digital Arts and Sciences (DAS) program partner with the UF Foundation to create original digital movies. The movies are premiered at special banquets on the UF campus when the Alumni return to be inducted into the ranks of the Grand Guard, a prestigious element of the UF community.
Hands Across the Ocean
“Hands Across the Ocean: The Lost Chord” featured musicians, dancers, actors, engineers and video artists from five cultures working together to create a multidimensional perspective on world music. On February 17 the University of Florida’s Digital Worlds Institute coordinated an unprecedented real-time global performing arts collaboration with partners representing Australia, Korea, Latin America, England and the USA.
In Common:TIME
Bridging five continents and cultures by creating an unprecedented real-time global collaboration for the world’s largest computer art and interactivity conference in Los Angeles, California on August 1-4, 2005. “In Common: TIME” features performers ranging in age from 11 to 68, including musical artists from the five diverse world cultures.
International Media Union
A 3D visualization for the College of Education of a new international media union to be built between their current home in Norman Hall and the DW REVE in the historic Norman Gym.
Bernie Machen: A Passion for Excellence
An original wide screen digital movie celebrating Bernie Machen, the 11th president of the University of Florida.
Mask
A dance and visual art collaboration over the Internet2 connecting The University of Chile REUNA and Digital Worlds.
Maximum Impact
An on-stage synchronous performance of live musicians performing simultaneously in Alaska, Florida and throughout Ohio in a large-scale virtual environment. The event included CODEX Tympanos, DRUMMA and the World Premiere of SMOKE|WIRE|ROCK, a new site-specific work created specially for the Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland, Ohio.
National TV Spot for UF
The University of Florida promotional spot that aired on national television in 2003 was produced entirely by the Digital Worlds Institute.
Non Divisi
A distributed collaborative process between participants in three continents including Korea, Chile, Florida, and Indiana. The rehearsals and performance, using Internet2 and advanced media technology, demonstrated how telepresence can effectively empower multinational collaborations in the performing arts.
Original Seed
The Digital Worlds Institute hosted Visiting Artists from Miami's New World School of the Arts to retell a traditional Chilean folk tale with ethnic musicians in South America and theatrical performers in North America. Conference attendees in Chile witnessed an unprecedented cultural exchange between Florida performers and Chilean musicians entitled "Original Seed"
The Pigskin Professor
Professor Tony Schmitz combines his love of football with mechanical engineering in a series of episodes that show how engineering pervades our daily lives.
Time to Fly Away
A five-minute digital media production for a UF Convocation ceremony held on the Reitz Union Lawn.
Voyage to Tomorrow
A three-movement symphonic suite performed live to an original digital movie created by the UF Digital Worlds Institute incorporating dramatic time-lapse cinematography, 3D computer animation and imagery from historic Renaissance paintings and sculptures.
