In Common Time: Maximum Impact
Ingenuity Festival
July 2007

Percussionists from across North America convened LIVE onstage (physically and virtually) to present In Common Time: MAXIMUM IMPACT, a 30-minute digital media event featuring the music of native Cleveland composer James Oliverio. The event included CODEX Tympanos, DRUMMA and the World Premiere of SMOKE|WIRE|ROCK a new site-specific work created specially for INGENUITY 2007.

SMOKE|WIRE|ROCK presented synchronous performances of live musicians performing simultaneously in Alaska, Florida and throughout Ohio, brought together in a large-scale virtual environment created by artist Steve Walker and engineer Andy Quay. Featured musical soloists included timpanist Ben Ramirez (Columbus Symphony), Atlanta guitar Ace Rick Burgess, Alaskan Groove Meister Scott Deal and Cleveland percussionist Feza Zweifel.

In Common Time (ICT) is an ongoing series of innovative globally-distributed network-based performances pioneered by the University of Florida’s Digital Worlds Institute. ICT was made possible with Digital Worlds’ NetroNome™, an invention that synchronizes musicians, video, audio and graphics across the high-speed network. Performances were at 10PM on Thursday and Friday July 19 and 20, 2007 on the Ingenuity Festival Main Stage in Playhouse Square, Cleveland, Ohio.
