J. Bernard “Bernie” Machen is the 11th president of the
University of Florida.
He earned his doctor of dental surgery from St. Louis University
and his
master of science in pediatric dentistry and Ph.D. in educational
psychology
from the University of Iowa. He served in leadership positions at
the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of
Michigan
before being named president of the University of Utah in 1998.
Dr. Machen and wife, Chris, have two sons and a daughter.
