Original Seed Intercontinental
Live Performance Spring 2003
In collaboration with the Symposium "Science, Culture and
Education on Advanced Networks - Internet2" in Chile, the Digital
Worlds Institute hosted Visiting Artists from Miami's New World
School of the Arts to retell a traditional Chilean folk tale with
ethnic musicians in South America and theatrical performers in North
America.
As part of an international gathering in northern Chile, conference
attendees witnessed an unprecedented cultural exchange between Florida
performers and Chilean musicians entitled "Original Seed".
Using a traditional South American creation myth, students, faculty
and staff in the Digital Worlds (DW) REVE worked with dancers and
musicians rehearsing and performing together across two continents
in real time. This distributed collaboration was made possible by
DW and Reuna's Access Grid installations. Key project personnel
included Arturo Sinclair (director), Andy Quay (technical director),
Lorena Paola (mask and performance), Ron Edelen (digital art), Patrick
Pagano (audio and networking) and James Oliverio (executive producer).
